Astonished surgeons delivered the tot by an emergency Caesarean on 5th August after starting the birth but realising it was too large to emerge naturally.

Mum Suzana Kucina, 27 – from Gornji Milanovac, Serbia – has two other children who were both normal-sized when born.

She told local media that pregnancy scans revealed her son – named Pavle – would be big but nothing revealed he would turn out to weigh 6.42 kilogrammes (14.15 lbs).

Suzana said: “It was all beautiful and wonderful to me.

“I couldn’t wait to give birth the second and third time – to give birth to them, to see them, to get to know each other.

“According to the ultrasound, the doctor said that the baby will be about 4.2 kilogrammes [9.2 lbs].

“We knew it was a big baby, but we didn’t know it was going to be this big.”

Pavle’s siblings – seven-year-old Leon and five-year-old Lena from his mum’s first marriage – both weighed less than four kilogrammes at birth.

Local media reported that Suzana only gained about 15 kilogrammes (33 lbs) during the pregnancy so even the doctors were surprised at the baby’s size.

She was hospitalised several times in the last two to three months, because of premature contractions.

Dr Dragan Perisic – who managed Suzana’s pregnancy and delivered Pavle – said: “The length of the baby is 68 centimetres [26.7 inches], the circumference of the head is 38 centimetres [14.9 inches] and it belongs to the one per cent in terms of size.”

Midwife Snezana Malisic told local media: “It was the first time I encountered this weight in my 35-year-long career.

“There were babies up to 5.5 kilogrammes [12.1 lbs], but not this big”.

Exhausted Suzana told local media she does not know if she will have another baby, because for now her three children are enough.

The heaviest baby ever born to a healthy mother was a boy weighing 10.2 kilogrammes (22 lb 8 oz) in 1955.

His mum Carmelina Fedele from Aversa, Italy in September 1955, still holds the heaviest baby title in Guinness World Records.
