A multi-millionaire crypto boss found cut into pieces and flushed down the loo was butchered by his best pal to get out of a deal worth just GBP 873, it has emerged.
Christian Peev, 41 – who held both US and Bulgarian citizenship – was reported missing by his cousin before the gruesome find on 12th August.
His mutilated body was found when plumbers were called out to clear a blocked drain at Peev’s apartment block in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.
Now it has emerged that Peev was apparently killed by his friend Veselin Valchinov who reportedly owed him BGN 2,000 (GBP 873) over a crypto deal.
The 29-year-old bartender and Peev had planned to start a new cryptocurrency together.
But Peev changed his mind and demanded his investment money back.
Broke Valchinov then hatched a plan to kill Peev and make him and the debt simply disappear, report local media.
Peev was battered to death with a dumbell and then – say prosecutors – Valchinov cut his body into pieces and flushed them away on 8th August.
Some parts – like the head, arm and leg bones – were too large for the loo so they were buried by an accomplice called Konstantin Subotinov, say police.
Valchinov was arrested after police watched CCTV footage of the entrance to Peev’s apartment and saw him coming and going in the day the tycoon died.
Police – who tracked him through his mobile phone – seized Valchinov at a hotel in Vitosha on 13th August.
Local media reported that he has two previous convictions for embezzlement and causing dangerous bodily harm.
Prosecutor Iliana Kirilova said: “We are witnessing a brutality, a human life has been taken in an extremely unforgivable method.
“The government has immediately taken 15 restrictions to respond to the violence in our society.
“What we consider to be true is that it should be clear in the mind of the perpetrator that he will be punished.
“There will be an objective development in the course of which they will be satisfactorily collected evidence”.
